This country stands on the shoulders of women
Where gendered job roles,
Still exist, still control
Give way to pay gaps and discrimination
Minimum wage stagnates
As the cost of living inflates
While women still make up most low paid positions
This country stands on the shoulders of women
As privately educated male politicians
Write the laws that worsen women’s conditions
Women lose most to the welfare cuts
that should be a provision
Paying twice for a banking crisis
caused by men in finance positions
Failed by the state
And instead made to pay
For mistakes made without our permission
This country stands on the shoulders of women
Women for whom tax credit loss
and childcare costs
are a constant suffocation
Single mothers who’ve lost
more than a sixth of their income
To Cameron’s ConDem coalition
The same administration
That’s cut nurseries, cut legal aid,
cut domestic violence provisions
Of the 15 billion saved
11 billion’s been made
By cutting the income of women
Driving inequity in the name of austerity
In this country that stands on the shoulders of women

I love the topic of women’s rights. I believe that women should stand up for themselves. 🙂
